Today, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media Nozima Davletova met in the pre-trial detention center in Bukhara with journalist Lolagul Kallykhanova, a defendant in a criminal case on the events in Karakalpakstan on July 1-2 of this year. The visit was organized with the assistance of the Independent Commission for the Study of Events in Karakalpakstan.

Today, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media Nozima Davletova met in the pre-trial detention center in Bukhara with journalist Lolagul Kallykhanova, a defendant in a criminal case on the events in Karakalpakstan on July 1-2 of this year. The visit was organized with the assistance of the Independent Commission for the Study of Events in Karakalpakstan.


Despite the situation, the conversation turned out to be confidential and frank. The conditions of the journalist's detention were discussed, how the court sessions are held, they talked about personal topics, about the family.


Lolagul noted that she had no complaints about her health and detention, and no illegal actions were applied to her, all investigative measures were carried out in compliance with the law and ensuring the right to defense. She sincerely repents that her actions could provoke the death of people.


In the conversation, Lolagul noted the importance of improving the legal literacy of the entire journalistic community of the country, a clear understanding of their rights and obligations, which will significantly increase the level of protection of journalists.


Nozima Davletova stressed that the Mass Media Foundation is ready to provide assistance and support to the Kallykhanova family, given the complexity of the situation. Women are particularly vulnerable in prison, and their families are under intense societal pressure.


The Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media is committed to the principles of strengthening freedom of speech in the country and intends to continue working, including jointly with international organizations and foreign partners, to implement projects aimed at improving the legal literacy of media representatives in Uzbekistan.
